“The Flipped Classroom,” it’s the new buzz word in education. Does it work? Is it effective? Is it a passing fad? I still have a lot of questions, but the more I look at it, the more I think this is what our young learners have been waiting for. This is how they live (on demand, personal choice, delivered in the palm of their hand, etc.), and we need to move to a more modern method of delivery. They will not sit still for a 1940′s model employed in 2012…. This will require using the technological advances of the modern world, but we can do it. It’s time.
There’s no excuse. Teachers do not have to “record all their lectures,” - the stuff is already out there! You may have to supplement what already exists in order to personalize your lessons, but there is so much that already exists that we can no longer say we “just don’t have time.”
I love the TED Talk above from Sal Khan… We gotta get there SOON!
You can start right now by signing up (with your Google or Facebook account) at khanacademy.org. Then have your kids sign up and add you as their coach. Bingo! You have “flipped” your classroom!
